Press release from the Fox Cities Chamber: June 8, 2022 The League of Women Voters of Appleton-Fox Cities will host the LWV Wisconsin statewide annual meeting Friday and Saturday, June 10-11 at the Hilton Appleton Hotel Paper Valley. Theme for the meeting is "Partnering with Changemakers to Power the Vote." Nearly 100 attendees are expected to participate. The Friday meetings will be in-person and virtual, while Saturday's will be in-person and recorded for later viewing. Friday's session includes an award presentation, the Parade of Leagues, keynote speakers from the Disability Vote Coalition, and a panel of young people who already are transforming new ideas into action. Saturday's keynote will focus on Native voting, with additional breakout sessions on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), civic education, election administration and jail voting. The League is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. The League supports diversity, equity and inclusion in principle and in practice. The League's mission is to empower voters and defend democracy. LWV Appleton-Fox Cities Co-President Linda Bjella says that hosting the event draws statewide attention to the Fox Cities communities and the local League's contributions to voting advocacy. Local League members have invited their visiting counterparts to honor Old Glory and step out in Appleton's Flag Day parade at 2 p.m. Saturday. In the spirit of early suffragists, participants will have the option of marching in the parade, or riding in the downtown trolley courtesy of Lamers.
