TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Toms River man who authorities say had hundreds of sexually explicit photos of children on his cell phones has been arrested, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said Thursday. Kevin F. Wurtenberg, 38, of Toms River, has been charged with possession of child pornography, Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said. The prosecutor's office was notified by the New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force that it had detected a Verizon Wireless user downloading images of child pornography from the internet, officials said. The prosecutor's High Tech Crime Unit identified a Verizon Wireless user with a Toms River address as the person downloading the images, the prosecutor's office said, and on Thursday morning a search warrant was executed at Wurtenberg's home, officials said. Two cell phones were seized from the home as detectives found several hundred images of child pornography on them, Billhimer said, and Wurtenberg was arrested at his residence. Wurtenberg is being held at the Ocean County Jail in Toms River pending a detention hearing. The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office High Tech Crime Unit, Toms River Police Department, New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, and the United States Department of Homeland Security – Investigations Unit collaborated in the investigation, officials said.
