The City of Paducah is proud to sponsor Paducah's first ever community celebration of Juneteenth. The Carson Center and the Paducah-McCracken County NAACP are holding the event from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday, June 20 at the Carson Center.
The event includes an inspiring program featuring keynote speaker, Dr. Brandon McCormack. Dr. McCormack is associate professor of Pan-African Studies and Comparative Humanities at the University of Louisville in addition to the director of the Anne Braden Institute for Social Justice Research. Following the one-hour program will be a dinner on the Carson Center lawn. The $15 ticket includes a reserved seat in the theatre for the program and a boxed barbeque dinner and live entertainment on the lawn. A cash bar will be available.

Additional event sponsors include McCracken County, CSI, Baptist Health, Mercy Health, and Bryant Law Center.
In 2021, President Joe Biden signed legislation that made Juneteenth, which falls on June 19, a federal holiday. Juneteenth is an annual commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States after the Civil War.
