WEST CHESTER, PA —A 60-year-old Spring City man was sentenced Thursday to 12 to 32 years in state prison after being convicted of raping a 16-year-old child and forcing the child to perform sex acts on him once or twice a week in 2020 and 2021. Chester County Judge Analisa Sondergaard imposed the sentence in the Chester County Justice Center after Richardson pleaded guilty to rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, unlawful contact with a minor, and invasion of privacy. "Michael Richardson isolated this victim by bringing her at the start of the pandemic to Pennsylvania from Georgia, where she knew no one, "District Attorney Deb Ryan said. "Once here, he sexually abused her every week for a year. The victim's strength, resilience, and bravery helped her survive, and I highly commend her. Hopefully, this lengthy sentence brings her justice and a sense of safety again." According to police: Investigators learned that the child victim moved from Georgia, where she lived with her adoptive family, to the defendant's two-bedroom apartment in early 2020. The defendant bought lingerie for the victim and watched the victim sleep or get dressed using surveillance cameras he had installed in every room except the bathroom. Because there was only one bed, the victim was forced to share it with the defendant. The victim's phone and other items were taken away if she refused to have sex with him. When asked what would happen if she told someone, the defendant shoved her and called her a psychopath. Spring City Police and Chester County Detectives investigated. Assistant District Attorney Sam Bonsall was the assigned prosecutor.
