Fatal Crash Closes Route 53 Near Lewis University: Police

ROMEOVILLE, IL — Route 53 near Lewis University is currently closed due to a fatal traffic accident which happened on Friday afternoon, according to Romeoville Police. As of 4:45 p.m. Friday, police said the traffic unit was still investigating the crash, which happened on Independence Boulevard north of University Parkway. According to police, the crash is a fatal traffic incident. Police did not provide additional information, pending notification of family and the completion of the investigation. The university said the road was temporarily closed between Renwick Road and Airport Road.
