OAK FOREST, IL — Pet owners who are struggling to afford rising costs of cat and dog food are invited to take supplies for free this weekend, event organizers said.
In an event put together by Redeemer's Lutheran Church, Friends of Oak Forest Animal Control and Paws 4 Playhouse, pet owners in the community can come and take from the free pet food pantry while supplies last.
According to a survey from NielsonIQ, pet food was about 12 percent more expensive at the start of 2022 than the start of 2020.
A spokesperson for the event said the honor system will be used to ensure everyone gets as much as they need for their cat or dog. The pantry will be set up Saturday, June 11 from 10 a.m. to noon at the corner of 158th Street and Lavergne Avenue.
