AURORA, IL — Two men died in a car crash after trying to flee Aurora police Friday morning, officials said. The driver was wanted on several warrants, including armed robbery, and the passenger was wanted by the Illinois Department of Corrections. While names weren't disclosed, police identified the driver as a 28-year-old man from Wheaton and the front passenger as a 52-year-old Chicago man. Police pulled a car over for a traffic stop near the intersection of South Fourth Street and Galena Boulevard just before 9:30 a.m. When officers attempted to arrest the Chicago man, the two fled in the car, driving south on Fourth Street from Galena Boulevard, officials said. Officers said they began to pursue the car but soon stopped "due to the speed of the fleeing vehicle." A little while after, police said they learned the car crashed in the 800 block of South Fourth Street. The car sustained significant damage, and both men were killed in the crash, police said. The deaths are being investigated by the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force Officer-Involved Death Team. Anyone with information about the crash or investigation is asked to call the Aurora Police Department's Investigations Division at 630-256-5500 or email [email protected].
