Description
Hello, Thank you for checking us out! My name is Shaun Piazza, I'm the founder of Colorado Wedding Productions. We're a super team focused wedding service company serving all of Colorado (but mostly Denver, Boulder, Estes Park, and the Colorado Springs areas). Our company is rooted in our DJ service and we are in need of new talent to bring onto the team. We're open to people with zero experience DJing all the way through established pros, with pay ranging from a base of $400-$700 and extra for drives further than an hour away, playtime past 6 hours, and some other possible add on services (plus commons tips around $50-$100). You must already be personable and have a strong sense of professionalism! Other than that everything can be trained. I can't stress the professionalism enough though. You are working with peoples' weddings, which have a high level of importance and lots of moving parts. So all communications must be prompt and you must follow through on the things you represent. Below you will find the more detailed specifics of the job. We'd love to hear from you. -Base payment is $100/night while training, $400/night when you're an intermediate, and $600 a night as a professional. If you are already working as a wedding DJ and you can show us a positive history of work experience and reviews we can start you at a professional pay rate. That $600 will raise up to $700 when we see that you're in this and planning to stick around, and there is additional pay for long weddings and long drives (we can go over the details of all of that when we speak). You also get tipped pretty regularly, most people average an extra $75 a night in tips. How quickly you rise through these payment levels depends a lot on you, particularly in the training period. We'll want you to do a minimum of 3 follow weddings where you are working with the professional DJ, taking their pointers, and just helping with setup and management of the wedding night while soaking up as much as you can. As soon as you say you're comfortable to try doing your own weddings we'll start booking you. Most people take more like 7-10 follow weddings before they are comfortable, and some people take more. It all depends on your comfort. There won't be a lot of expectations on you for your very first weddings. We communicate clearly with the couples and let them know that this is "your very first" solo wedding. We book you at an extreme discount and people know exactly what they are getting. Typically, we want to book you for a full year as an intermediate before we up you to a pro level, as long as you work around 30 and we have good feedback coming in about your performance we are happy to step you up to the pro level. The amount of bookings you get depends on your availability (which you get to control entirely). But with an open calendar through the summer 15-20 bookings would be the lowest number and 50-60 weddings in a summer is possible (and will leave you saying I'm only working 40 next year hahaha). Usually your intermediate summer will get the highest number of bookings because people love discounts. -You are expected to own and maintain your own equipment, about $2,500 worth. We can help you both in the selection of this gear as well as pay for it up front if you need it and then take payments from the weddings you are working. -You are paid as a 1099 subcontractor. -You are free to market and book yourself alongside us! There are no non compete agreements, and if it's a path you want to go we're super happy to give you pointers and help you out along the way. You'll find we're a very transparent and helpful group of people who truly want everyone to succeed in their endeavors. We are always looking for those "everyone wins" situations. -You need to have reliable transportation (and it helps if the car isn't a beater just for the looks aspect, but this isn't a sticking point). -The large majority of bookings happen in August/September. June/July are a little behind those. April, May, and October are a bit behind that. And the rest of the months pick up random bookings here and there. About 70% will be Saturday nights, 20% will be Friday/Sunday, and 10% will be Monday-Thursday. I like to talk about weddings DJing as being a combination of 5 unique skill sets. Usually, no one is strong in them all in the beginning, but fortunately they can all be learned. 1. (Most Important!): Professionalism / Communication: Weddings have tons of moving parts and people involved so when vendors are unresponsive or unprofessional it both makes the job more difficult for other vendors and it makes the client worry. You will literally be shaping the brand of our company with your behavior and we've built a strong one. So this is the only true "must have" to work with us. 2. Technical knowledge / equipment management: Understanding how electricity and sound works and how your gear all links together to produce crisp clear audio for the audience. Most important for troubleshooting when something is not working right. 3. Comfort being on a microphone and leading events. There is almost always a wedding planner but you are the person that facilitates each part of the evening and leads the events of the night forward. 4. Music knowledge / appropriate selection for the moment. You'll end up playing a little bit of everything so having the knowledge to begin with helps! 5.. DJ / Mixing ability: In a lot of ways this is the least important. You can create a really happy group of people even if you're the worst mix artist in the world but you nail the other 4 skill sets. And even in the heart of a raging dance party, if you choose a good song to play next you can totally mess up the transition and the audience won't care at all if the song inspires them. However this is also the ability that "wows" people. So as you get strong in this you'll start to get the truly inspired feedback, and the planners and venues that only want to work with you, which is our end goal in our performance. -Shaun
