You get what you voted for.. Inflation ticks up to 8.6%, highest rate in 4 decades, as fears of recession grow! Housing, gas and food prices were the largest contributors to the increase. The price of gas rose 4.1% in May, bringing the increase in gas prices to 48.7% over the past 12 months. Food prices increased by 1.2% in May, bringing its 12-month increase to 10.1%, overall. Excluding gas and food prices, which tend to be volatile, the core inflation rate for all other items combined rose 0.6% last month. The largest contributors were from housing costs, airline fares, as well as both used and new vehicles.
