Description

Have your heard about The Mill at Vicksburg? It’s a massive space with an expansive concept and will be a premium tourist destination right here in Southwest Michigan. At the project’s heart is the desire to save the Mill and honor the legacy of the people, the community, and the products that have been created here. With sustainability as a main pillar of the project, environmental impact and celebration of the planet are considered at every level: energy use and sourcing from geothermal to solar; exploring the use of and impact on natural resources such as land and water; focus on how waste is treated in the reconstruction and by future users; to the goal of being carbon neutral and tracking carbon emissions. This complex, exciting, and unique project has many challenges and opportunities to address from a Brownfield perspective, too! Here are a few highlights of actions already taken that you will hear more about during the presentation and tour: Repurposing, reusing, and salvaging building materialsLead and asbestos abatementEstablishing a pollinator habitatPlease join us to hear about and tour this labor of love, creativity, innovation, and celebration of Pure Michigan!
