“De mente/Mental” a free bilingual poetry and storytelling event that will also showcase some of Devers’ art pieces. Devers is a bilingual poet, educator, and business owner in Nassau County. She has also authored five books, including best selling poetry book Huellas de una memoria perdida, which she is currently translating to English to expand her audience. Her literature highlights her cultural heritage, one’s constant search for identity and the need to address topics that have been culturally stigmatized in the Hispanic/Latinx community, with a hopeful touch to each one of the pieces. With this program, Devers hopes to use artistic art forms to hold an honest dialogue about mental health and the importance of communicating with our children from a young age to destigmatize mental illness, starting with the family unit. This program is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrant Program, a regrant program of New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and is administered by the Huntington Arts Council, Inc.
