The Hampton Roads Workforce Council is now accepting applications for the HR Strong initiative that supports Marine Trades Training. The HR Strong initiative is a partnership of the Hampton Roads Workforce Council, the Virginia Ship Repair Association (VSRA) and the Community College Workforce Cooperative which includes education partners Camp Community College, Thomas Nelson Community College and Tidewater Community College. HR Strong offers free Marine Trade Training (MTT) in welding and access to hiring events and interviews; and can include supportive services like transportation, childcare and uniforms. The HR Strong initiative is open to individuals 18 and older, authorized to work in the United States, and where applicable, registered for Selective Service. A prescreening will include a free background check, drug screening, and physical, at no cost to the participant. Employers with job openings in the maritime industry should also connect with the Hampton Roads Workforce Council for assistance with training possible new hires. The 10 Week program (valued at $9000) provides: • Level 1, 2 and 3 of Marine Welding – done through the Community Colleges • Blueprint Reading, • OSHA 10 certification, • Emergency First Responder- done through Virginia Ship Repair Association Structural Fitting Maritime Training Courses Coming This Summer This program is offered at no cost or low cost to the student through --Thomas Nelson Community College, --Tidewater Community College, --Paul D.
