Description
Vocalist David Thorne Scott is joined by pianist Mark Shilansky, guitarist Eric Byers, and Grammy nominated violinist Sara Caswell in a remarkable performance consisting of jazz-infused music from Caswell’s various CDs, as well as the Americana/Jazz arrangements of Shilansky’s "Fugue Mill" and Scott’s "Thornewood". Vocalist David Thorne Scott and pianist Mark Shilansky have been playing music together since the late 90’s. They have collaborated as members of the vocal jazz group “Syncopation,” as well as on each other’s projects, notably Shilansky’s band Fugue Mill, Scott’s recordings “Shade” and the newly released “Thornewood.” Frequent collaborators and fellow Berklee faculty members, Eric Byers (guitar) and Sara Caswell (violin) join Scott and Shilansky on this show. Byers is a noted educator and accompanist with many New England artists, and New Yorker Sara Caswell, a 2018 Grammy nominee for “Best Jazz Improvised Solo”, is a rising jazz star in her own right with multiple recordings as a leader, as a member of the collectives "9 Horses” and “Rose and the Nightingale,” and as a performer in the bands of Dave Stryker, Brad Mehldau, Esperanza Spalding, and Bruce Springsteen. This remarkable ensemble performance will consist of jazz-infused music from Caswell’s various CDs, as well as the Americana/Jazz arrangements of Shilansky’s “Fugue Mill” and Scott’s “Thornewood” (featuring acoustic guitar-laden takes on Cole Porter and jazzifications of John Denver and Townes Van Zandt). A Listening Room Experience Hermit Woods is excited to bring talented artists from across New England and beyond to perform for you. Each performance will provide you with an intimate, up-close, and personal experience with the performing artists. To do this, we ask that our audience please refrain from talking during the featured show. Your silence will allow both the artists and the audience to immerse themselves in the experience, which is not otherwise possible in larger, noisier environments. All shows commence at 6:00 PM with a warm-up artist, John Franzosa on piano. We encourage you to arrive early and enjoy food and wine until 7:20 while listening to our first act of the evening. The kitchen will close at 7:00. We will introduce the featured artists at 7:20, and we will ask that the audience remain quiet during the performance. The first set will be from 7:30 to 8:15. There is a short intermission from 8:15 to 8:30, at which time you are encouraged to interact, freshen your drinks, and use the restrooms as needed. At 8:30, the show resumes with the second set, concluding between 9:00 and 9:15. After the show, we invite you to interact with the artists and purchase any music or merchandise offerings if available. 6:00 PM - 7:20 PM - Eat, drink, and be merry.
