Description

Did you know that the Indian Prairie Public Library is located on the Route 66 Monarch Flyway and that your garden, business, church, or school might be too? Join us to learn how you can help migrating monarchs by planting habitat to support them on their annual journey along this 66-mile-wide corridor that stretches from Chicago to St. Louis. While you visit, you'll have the chance to meet Lori Harris from the Salt Creek Butterfly Farm and experience her Butterfly Flight Tent. You will have the opportunity to observe and interact with live butterflies. You will learn more about monarchs, their lifecycle and extraordinary migration from Mexico to Canada and BACK! This family friendly event includes activities for all ages. Enjoy a summer day walking among butterflies and leave with knowledge and an appreciation of this iconic insect and conservation efforts to help them survive. Information will be available to help you support our state insect on their annual journey through Illinois. Milkweed starts and seed will be available so that you can add to the Route 66 flyway habitat in your gardens. DGC volunteers will be available to answer questions about all things related to butterfly gardening. Eventbrite registration is not required, but advised, as registrants will receive reminder emails. We do not want you to miss this fun educational day. The beauty is using the nectar from the common milkweed blossom to fuel up. You don’t have to live on the flyway to help monarchs but the efforts along the Route 66 highway are working to connect habitat to make their journey safe and nourishing for the caterpillars all the way through our state.
