Salem Offshore Wind Project Public Forum Set For This Month

SALEM, MA — North Shore residents looking to learn more about the Salem Offshore Wind Terminal project are invited to attend an informational public forum on June 22. The virtual forum will be held via Zoom from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The terminal will be built next to the Salem Harbor Power Station and will store, assemble and distribute wind turbine components for offshore energy production. "The project is anticipated to create hundreds of clean energy jobs, improve Salem's historic port, and lead the way in the fight to reduce the commonwealth's carbon footprint," city officials said. Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll has hailed the city's partnership with Commonwealth Wind as the next provider of offshore wind energy as a "transformative moment for Salem, our commonwealth and our planet." Avangrid Renewables, which will run the offshore project with Commonwealth Wind, said the project will provide 1,232 megawatts of clean offshore wind and will bring 11,000 jobs to the North Shore while providing energy to power 750,000 homes across the state annually.
