Description

YONKERS, NY— A new public health initiative to increase breast cancer screenings in the Yonkers community, could save your life or the life of someone you love. The Rotary Club of the Hudson Valley and Montefiore Einstein Cancer Center are collaborating to provide screenings with a newly FDA-approved device, iBreastExam, which is non-invasive, portable and radiation-free. This breast exam is quick and painless, and helps discover previously undetected breast lumps and lesions. Approximately 1 out of every 8 women in the U.S. is diagnosed with breast cancer. Despite screenings being the best way to identify and treat cancers at their most curable stage, screening rates across the region and nation have plummeted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, thus leading to a higher risk of late-stage cancers. The new breast cancer screening initiative is free for everyone and the first session will take place this Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Yonkers Public Library at 1 Larkin Center. Other future dates for the screenings are: June 25, July 9, July 23, August 6, August 20, September 10 and September 24. Advanced registration is required for screenings and can be be completed here.
