Massachusetts Nurses Association Endorse Steve Teehan for State Representative The Massachusetts Nurses Association, the state's largest union and professional association for registered nurses and health care professionals, announces its endorsement and strong support for Steve Teehan, Democratic candidate for the 9th Norfolk House Seat. "MNA nurses and healthcare professionals are proud to endorse Steve Teehan as the Democratic candidate for the 9th Norfolk House Seat because Steve stands with us for safer patient care," said Katie Murphy, MNA President and a practicing ICU nurse. "Steve has had our backs when nurses have fought for our patients and has been a strong advocate for workers during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond." Teehan is seeking the House seat being vacated by Rep. Shawn Dooley, R-Norfolk. Teehan has pledged to support nurse efforts to improve patient care through the state legislature. These include safe patient limits for nurses, workplace violence prevention and safe patient handling bills. Born and raised in the 9th Norfolk District, Teehan is a former State House staffer, having worked as Chief of Staff to State Senator Walter F. Timilty during his final years in the House of Representatives. Teehan currently works as a Union Steward for Carpenters Local 346. In addition to being a leader on the jobsite, Teehan serves on the Executive Board and as a delegate to their regional council. Steve has been active on countless state and local campaigns and is a longtime member and Chair of the Medfield Democratic Town committee. Steve is the son of a 37-year MNA nurse and has an intimate understanding of the challenges nurses are facing today as well as the necessity for strong advocacy at the State House. " I believe firmly in the MNA's legislative vision, and am in 100% agreement with their platform. In a wider way I believe Massachusetts must be a leader in a movement which shifts the focus of Healthcare from a revenue generating, for-profit sector to one which ensures all members of our society, regardless of race or economic ability, receive the care they require by skilled, adequately compensated professionals." Founded in 1903, the Massachusetts Nurses Association is the largest union of registered nurses in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Its 23,000 members advance the nursing profession by fostering high standards of nursing practice, promoting the economic and general welfare of nurses in the workplace, projecting a positive and realistic view of nursing, and by lobbying the Legislature and regulatory agencies on health care issues affecting nurses and the public.
