EAST ISLIP, NY — Several East Islip students are being recognized for their trivial accomplishments.
East Islip High School's Academic Team students recently finished ninth out of 44 schools in the Long Island Quiz Bowl Championship, for the first time in its program's history.
Students competed by answering "Jeopardy"-style trivia questions that range from literature, history, science and fine arts, to religion, philosophy and politics.
"This was a big victory for East Islip," said academic team adviser Lisa Rapiejko.
According to East Islip School District, the team lost only one match in their division during the regular season.
The 44 teams consisted of schools from both Nassau and Suffolk counties. East Islip finished ninth overall, just missing the next round of playoffs for the top eight schools.
The final competition was held on May 18 at Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy HighSchool, a press release said.\
"The students worked hard all year to achieve top ranking on Long Island," said Rapiejko. "I am fortunate to work with such dedicated and talented young people".
