New York Anti-Abortion Clinic Vandalized, Set On Fire

BUFFALO, NY — An anti-abortion pregnancy center near Buffalo was firebombed this week in what the organization is calling an act of political violence. Police and firefighters were called to CompassCare in Amherst on Tuesday after smoke was reported coming from the building at 1230 Eggert Rd. According to center officials, vandals smashed multiple windows and lit several fires inside the facility. "Jane was here" was spraypainted on the side of the building, center staff said. The graffiti led center staff to believe the act may be tied to the far-left extremist group Jane's Revenge, a group that claimed responsibility for an attack against an anti-abortion group's office in Madison, Wisconsin, in May 2022. "This is the face of abortion," CompassCare CEO Jim Harden said at a news conference reported by the Buffalo News. "They're revealing it to us right now. We're all about life. We want to save every single human life we possibly can. And they're looking to destroy our ability to do that. But they did not succeed." The two fires set in the building were likely caused by an incendiary device, Amherst Supervisor Brian Kulpa told the News. Police are investigating the incident as arson. Amherst Police, the FBI and the Erie County District Attorney's Office are investigating. The agency, which serves about 20 patients per day, is now providing services at an undisclosed location, WIVB reported. "We're going to continue to serve as many women as we possibly can, this will never stop us," Harden told WIVB.
