ANNAPOLIS, MD — Sailor Oyster Bar burned Wednesday evening in Annapolis, city officials said. Nobody was hurt in the restaurant blaze. "Thank you everyone for your concern," the eatery said in an Instagram story. "All our guests, staff, and neighbors made it out safe. We appreciate your support, love, and messages. We will be back to let you know what our plans moving forward are." Nancy Hammond Editions, a gallery next to Sailor Oyster Bar, sustained minor damage. The business will be closed for a few days. "We'd like to thank all the first responders who were on the scene tonight and all they did to protect the people and buildings on our block," Nancy Hammond Editions said on Facebook. "Our hearts and all our support go out to the Sailor Oyster Bar family." Light House Bistro, another restaurant that sits two doors down from Sailor Oyster bar, offered its support. "We are grateful that everyone at Light House Bistro and those in the apartments above the bistro during this incident are safe and accounted for," the eatery said on Facebook. "Our hearts are with our neighbors who have been impacted by this fire and with the first responders on the scene." Multiple callers reported the blaze at 196 West Street around 8 p.m., the Annapolis Fire Department said. First responders said they found heavy flames at the back of the two-story building in the middle of the row. A team of about 60 firefighters controlled the blaze in roughly 55 minutes, a press release said. Authorities are still investigating what caused the two-alarm fire. Officials did not estimate how much damage the flames caused. Investigators said the building had functioning smoke detectors.
