Princeton Police Charge Man With Attempted Criminal Sexual Contact

PRINCETON, NJ — Princeton police have charged a Hopewell man with endangering the welfare of a child and attempted criminal sexual contact after he groped a teen on June 2, authorities said. Melecio Xecchay, 49, was arrested following an investigation conducted by Princeton Police Department's Detective Bureau. He is currently lodged in Mercer County Correctional Facility, police said Tuesday. On June 2, at 9:20 a.m. a 17-year-old girl was entering a parked vehicle on Franklin Avenue Parking Lot, when Xecchay approached her from behind and grabbed her left leg in an attempt to grab her buttocks, police said. The man then fled towards Princeton cemetery. There are several open criminal sexual contact cases that may be related to this case, police said. The detective bureau is investigating.
