Press release from the Somerset County Government: June 08, 2022 SOMERVILLE, NJ – The Somerset County Cultural & Heritage Commission is calling for applications for six grants of $25,000 each for use in 2023, funded by the National Endowment for the Arts as part of the American Rescue Plan. These grants are intended to support jobs in the arts sector, help arts organizations keep their doors open, and assist the field in recovering from the COVID pandemic. "The arts community in Somerset County is vibrant and diverse, and we are committed to supporting our artists through the COVID pandemic so it can emerge even stronger," said Commission Deputy Director Melonie Marano. "These grants will strengthen the organizations that develop artists and present their works to the public, and help our creative community come out of these current economic difficulties ready to grow and thrive." Non-profit organizations with tax-exempt 501(c)3 status, nonprofit colleges and universities, and Federally recognized tribal communities that provide arts programs benefitting Somerset County residents are eligible to apply. The grants will be awarded through a competitive application process. Completed applications including all required information are due on or before July 12, 2022 by 4:00 p.m. to the Cultural and Heritage Commission at 20 Grove Street, Somerville. To assist arts organizations in applying, virtual Zoom workshops are scheduled to aid in the application process. The workshops will be held on June 9 at 2:00 p.m. and June 21 at 6:00 p.m. Registration is available at https://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJIofu6tqj0rE9Dj3mdxTWaVINP7KUMpo8m5. All questions about the application, finance charts, or Request for Application must be submitted by June 30. The NEA made award grants money totaling $20,200,000 to 66 local arts agencies nationwide for sub-granting. The Somerset County Cultural & Heritage Commission was one of only three recipients in New Jersey.
