SAN RAFAEL, CA — A Marin gun buyback over the weekend brought in 552 firearms, authorities said. All Marin law enforcement agencies and the Marin County District Attorney's Office were involved in the program, which was hosted by the city of San Rafael. More than $50,000 was paid out for 210 rifles, 193 handguns and 149 shotguns, the San Rafael Police Department said. Of the weapons brought in, 28 were assault weapons, seven were illegally modified (shortened barrels or stocks), four were classified as unserialized "ghost" guns (three were AR-15 variants and the other a pistol) and two had serial numbers filed off. Approximately 11,000 rounds of ammunition were also turned in.
