Former Devereux Employee Convicted Of Assaulting 14-year-old Resident

WEST CHESTER , PA —A former Devereux employee was convicted Monday by a jury in the Chester County Justice Center of assaulting a 14-year-old at Devereux's Brandywine Campus in Glenmoore. Alexis Boaz, 35, of Royersford, was found guilty of simple assault and endangering the welfare of a child following a trial. Devereux is a nonprofit behavioral organization that provides services to children and adults with disabilities. Investigators said the defendant was an employee at Devereux when she punched and kicked a 14-year-old resident in the head, face, and body on Nov. 4, 2019. The attack continued until another employee walked in, at which point the victim was unconscious, according to prosecutors. The victim was taken to Brandywine Hospital for head injuries and marks and lacerations on the head, face, neck, and body. A sentencing date has not yet been set. District Attorney Deb Ryan said Boaz violated that duty of care and protection by viciously assaulting a child until he lost consciousness. "I've said it before, and I'll repeat it," Ryan said. "Keeping children safe is the responsibility of every adult, especially adults who are charged with the care and protection of vulnerable children." Ryan said this type of criminal behavior will never be tolerated. "We will continue to hold this defendant, and anyone else who perpetrates violence against a child, accountable." West Brandywine township police investigated the case. Assistant District Attorney Zachary Yurick was the assigned prosecutor.
