PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield police arrested a 37-year-old Chicago man after they determined he was driving drunk near downtown Plainfield with three children in tow May 29, officials said.
The man, of South Langley Avenue in Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or more, endangering the life or health of a child, and illegal transportation or possession of alcoholic liquor by a driver in a motor vehicle.
Around 9:58 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area near Lockport Street and Van Dyke Road after receiving a 911 call. There, they found a silver Honda SUV with a flat tire parked on the shoulder of the road. Police said the man was sitting in the driver's seat, and three kids — ages 8, 10 and 12 — were also in the car.
The 37-year-old complied with officers' request to take a Breathalyzer test. The test's conclusion, along with "other supporting evidence," gave officers "probable cause" to believe he was driving under the influence of alcohol, police told Patch.
After his arrest, officers brought the man to the police department for booking, where officials said he voluntarily submitted another breath sample that came out over the legal limit.
The three children were also taken to the Plainfield Police Department and released to a family friend, police said.
After the incident, police notified the Department of Children and Family Services, "based upon the circumstances surrounding the arrest," officials told Patch.
Editor's note: Patch is withholding the man's name to protect the identity of the children.
