Suspect In Serial Robberies Arrested After Hourslong Standoff

PORTLAND, OR — Officers on Tuesday arrested a man suspected in about three dozen robberies across the metro area since April after a four-hour standoff with Portland police, they announced Wednesday afternoon in a news release. Andrey Mazur, 32, of Portland, was charged with two counts of robbery in the second degree, police said. He pleaded not guilty, according to court records. Mazur was being held in he Multnomah County Detention Center on $650,000 bail, according to court records. Mazur is suspected in a string of other robberies that have taken place in at least a dozen cities, police said. "This is a prolific serial robber we're looking for," a detective involved in the case who was not authorized to speak publicly told Patch previously. Several jurisdictions wish to speak with Mazur, the detective said: "There's going to be a lot of discussions among prosecutors about how to proceed." Police arrested Mazur outside an apartment in the 200 block of North Hayden Bay Drive, where they had followed him after receiving reports of a robbery at a bar on North Lombard Street, police said. Mazur surrendered to police after four hours of negotiation with the Crisis Negotiaton Team and the Special Emergency Reaction Team, police said. Police took a replica handgun into evidence, they said. Mazur had shaved his head, police said. Mazur was charged in connection with the robbery at the bar on North Lombard and the robbery of a coffee shop on North McClellan, according to court records. Hours before Mazur was arrested, a coalition of a dozen local law enforcement agencies including Portland police released pictures of a man suspected of robbing businesses such as restaurants and auto parts stores in cities from Hillsboro to Gresham and Gladstone to Vancouver, the agencies said. The pictures were taken from surveillance videos of the robberies. Officials say that Mazur resembles the man in the photos. The coalition brought together officers from the Vancouver Police Department, Clark County Sheriff's Office, Portland Police Bureau, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, Washington County Sheriff's Office, Washougal Police Department, Gresham Police Department, Lake Oswego Police Department, Hillsboro Police Department, West Linn Police Department, Gladstone Police Department and others, police said.
