JOLIET, IL — A 19-year-old resident of Joliet is now in the Will County Jail with a $100,000 bail after Joliet police say Lucio Gomez went into the CVS Pharmacy on Caton Farm Road carrying a loaded gun.
Gomez's appearance inside the CVS Pharmacy prompted Joliet police to respond to the city's far west side. Gomez was later captured and charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful ammunition possession, having no FOID and defacing the identification marks on a gun.
Squad cars showed up at the CVS Pharmacy around 10:30 p.m. after getting a report of a man with a gun in the store. However, officers did not locate the suspect in the store.
"As officers exited the store, they observed a male matching the description of the suspect discarding an item in the landscaping near the parking lot on the northwest side of Caton Farm Road and Essington Road," police spokesman Dwayne English notified Patch.
It was Gomez, their suspect, police noted.
Officers then recovered a loaded .380 caliber handgun from the landscape where Gomez was observed kneeling and dropping an item, English announced.
Gomez was placed into custody without incident. Officers noted that the serial number on the weapon had been defaced.
Prior to Tuesday night's arrest, Gomez lived in the 1400 block of Lakewood Drive.
