High-Speed Chase At Ruby St. Bridge Leads To Arrest

JOLIET, IL — A 22-year-old east-side of Joliet resident is now in the Will County Jail with a $20,000 bail after Joliet police say Alejandro Granados sped away from officers during a traffic stop around 4 a.m. Saturday, according to police reports. About 90 minutes later, officers took a ride by the Granados home in the 500 block of North Hebbard Street and found his car parked along the street, so it was towed, according to police. On Tuesday, Granados came to the Joliet Police Station, confessing to the crime, and he was put under arrest, police noted. "Granados indicated to detectives that he was driving the fleeing vehicle during the incident on June 4," Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English informed Patch. Granados is now charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding a peace officer. At 3:57 a.m., Joliet cops tried to stop Granados' car near Clinton and Scott Streets because he had an equipment violation, according to police reports. When officers approached his car, Granados hit the gas, prompting the pair of Joliet police officers working together to give chase, the police noted. Their squad car pursued the fleeing vehicle to the area of the Ruby Street Bridge at which time the pursuit was terminated out of a concern for safety due to the fleeing vehicle's speed, English noted. Later that morning, at 5:33 a.m., officers towed the vehicle after it was parked and unoccupied in the 500 block of Hebbard Street, which is where Granados lives. Last December, Granados was also jailed by the Will County Sheriff's Office in connection with an incident last July that led to charges of aggravated speeding in a construction zone, 26 to 34 mph over the speed limit, jail records show.
