Description
We are a local, Oakland-based cultural placekeeping nonprofit that works to support the creative and entrepreneurial endeavors of the African Diaspora.
We are looking to hire onsite event support staff for the Juneteenth 2022 event at Lake Merritt. We are seeking reliable BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, Persons of Color) community members to serve as Alena Museum ambassadors. Event support is needed across multiple facets of our event and organization - include materials organization, event setup/takedown, interfacing with participants, assisting in implementing programs, and working generally across the event to ensure a smooth and effective presentation. Experience with event staffing is a plus but not required.
We want to provide BIPOC community members with the opportunity to earn extra income and be a part of our vision for a culturally-supported, Afrofuturistic Oakland. Tap in to our space and join the cultural placekeeping movement.
You may be needed for 2-day support on June 18th & 19th. Previous customer service, visitor experience and/or event organizing experience is a plus.
Duties include:
-- Availability to work June 18 - 19th
-- Flexibility to work 8 - 10 hours per day (2 days)
-- Assist with the setup and breakdown of art installations
-- Support artists & nonprofit staff as needed pre-event (picking up supplies, moving/loading installs, etc)
-- Support for our public art installations on the event day -- greet & talk to participants (given context on each install)
-- Must be open-minded and flexible to support any tasks that arise
Compensation:
-- $20/hour of your time
