AURORA, IL — A roof replacement is forcing Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry to temporarily move its distribution outdoors in drive-thru style until June 27, officials announced Tuesday.
Outdoor distributions at the Aurora pantry, located at 1110 Jericho Road, will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. During this time, staff members are asking visitors to remain in their cars, and parking lot attendees will be there to assist with questions.
"We are thrilled to begin the long-awaited roof replacement this month at the pantry," Executive Director Shannon Cameron said in a statement. "Distributions will be moving outside to keep everyone safe while the roof is under construction."
That's not the only change in store at the Aurora pantry, located at 1110 Jericho Road. Every third Tuesday of every month, the pantry will hold an evening distribution to allow more people to benefit.
Evening distributions will start June 21 and take place from 2-6 p.m. On that day, as well as on July 19 and Aug. 16, officials said there will be no morning distribution.
"We are bringing back late-afternoon/evening distribution to allow for those to visit the pantry who may work or have other commitments during our regular hours," Cameron said. "We hope this will not only allow more to benefit from our services, but also encourage a whole new group of desperately-needed volunteers."
