Press release from the Savannah Police Department: Bianca Johnson June 8th, 2022 SAVANNAH, GA (June 8, 2022): SPD's Specialized Units will be participating in a training exercise near Ellis Square in downtown Savannah on June 9. The training exercise will take place at Club 51 Degrees, 121 W. Congress St., from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Signs will be in place to alert people in that area that a training exercise is taking place. Some SPD vehicles may be in the area during the exercise, but it is not expected to affect traffic or nearby businesses from normal operations. "This is part of the continuing training of SPD's specialized units," Chief Roy Minter said. "In light of recent events across the country, our units partnered with a local business for this additional opportunity to build upon our experience and preparedness for response to a variety of different scenarios."
