This is a summer-time temporary position which may turn into a permanent position. This position is full-time and entails work in our busy fabrication shop/warehouse, as well as possibly occasionally making deliveries and/or picking up supplies using a company truck. The person in this job will be involved in putting together stock orders for delivery, accepting shipments, unloading and organizing stock, loading trucks, fabricating pipe ensuring all specifications and standards are met, operation of a forklift, as well as other general warehouse tasks as assigned, while following all company policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment. The start time at the shop for this position is 6:30am. If a delivery needs to be made, our deliveries are done from our warehouse in Kingston to various locations - mostly located in the Greater Boston area and need to be at the job site by 6 or 7am, and therefore the start time for that day may be as early as 5 or 6am. No CDL is necessary, however a DOT card will be required by the end of the first week, (the cost and time to get the DOT card will be paid for by the company). Qualifications: • RELIABLE • Basic mathematical skills - able to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure including whole numbers, common fractions and decimals • Basic reasoning ability - able to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions • Mechanical aptitude and good dexterity • Strong work ethic and self-motivated • Good attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness • Positive attitude • Ability to keep work area clean and organized, as well as take proper care of equipment and materials • Possess a willingness to learn • Ability to work both independently as well as part of a team • Must maintain a valid driver's license and a clean driving record at all times • Clean background check • Ability to pass a drug test • Must be able to stand, squat, and walk for long periods of time • Must be capable of bending, squatting, kneeling, reaching, and/or twisting • Must be able to lift, carry, push or pull at least 50 lbs. We are willing to train the right person. The ideal candidate will have a record of being very dependable, hard-working, and have excellent references. Our shop is very busy and can be hectic at times, and a successful employee in this position will be one who thrives in a fastpaced environment and displays a sense of urgency towards completing assigned tasks correctly. Experience with fabrication, warehouse work, a “hands-on type position”, as well as experience as a delivery driver and familiarity with the Greater Boston area are all definite plusses. There may be occasional overtime. We are a union fire protection contractor, and although this position is non-union, one of the many benefits this position has given employees in the past is experience working for a union sprinkler contractor to see if the sprinkler fitter trade may be of interest to them. In fact, many of the employees who have started in our shop, have transitioned into positions as apprentices for the Local 550 Sprinkler Fitters union.
