Two (2) seasonal deckhands required for the F/V Jillimare, a seiner fishing inland waters around Ketchikan AK. Must stay for the duration of the contract - from mid-June to mid-September approximately. Main Duties: - take a watch shift in rotation with other crew members during transit to and from Alaska. - assist with various tasks to get the vessel ready for fishing (painting, buying supplies, cleaning, net repair) as well as end of season duties while the boat is in Point Roberts, WA. - participate in safety drills and wear approopriate safety gear when required (mask, googles, helmets, etc.). - assist in deploying and retrieving the net - assist in mechanical unloading of fish at the end of fishing day, and clean the fish hold and deck. - assist in maintenance on non-fishing days. Meals and Bunks: - on fishing days, crewmembers rotate cooking duties along with deck duties. - on non-fishing days, only the evening meal is cooked and served but the galley is open for self-serve meals. - sleeping quarters for deckhands are bunks located in the focsicle, forward of the engine room below deck. No firearms, drugs, smoking (of any sort), drunkenness or harrassment of any kind will be tolerated. - must be 18 years of age or older with valid Social Security card - must be double vaccinated to cross Canadian/US border to get to Point Roberts WA by vehicle and you will also need a passport or enhanced driver's licence - be physically fit and have no health reason you are aware of to believe you won't be able to reliably perform all the following: * stand for long periods of time in extreme weather conditions * lift 50+ pounds repeatedly * work in weather on a sometimes slippery, unstable platform subject to sudden shifts of motion * tolerate noise, vibration, odors, etc. from mechanical equipment and seafood * have irregular and at times limited sleeping hours in a 24 hour period * be away from medical or other necessay services for a week or more at a time * put on a survival suit and other safety gear and be able to get in and off the boat unassisted * communicate over machinery noise Crewmembers will be required to provide at their own expense the following: - crew license - rain gear, boots and gloves etc. - airfare or travel expense to Point Roberts, WA Call or text Kurt Dobszinsky at (360) 808-0015 or email to [email protected] Please have contact information for references available should we be mutually interested in proceeding further.
