TrackGirlz in partnership with TrackTown USA, is hosting a powerhouse empowerment panel in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Title IX. Come and hear from an elite group of women in track and field who contributed towards history, culture, and sport as they give insight into the importance and impact of Title IX on their lives. Attendees will receive a first hand account from members of the prestigious Tennessee State University Tigerbelles who helped advance both women’s running and civil rights through the 1960s and 1970s, winning 16 Olympic Gold Medals, more than 30 national titles, and 23 Olympic total medals. Live panel members include: Madeline Manning Mims, The first American to win an Olympic Gold Medal in the 800m (1968 Olympics), she also competed in the 1972 & 1976 Olympic Games. Chandra Cheeseborough, 3x Olympic Medalist (2 Gold Medals in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays & 1 Silver Medal in the 400m (1984 Olympics), Currently the TSU Director of Track & Field, first TSU track and field athlete to receive an athletic scholarship. Mechelle Lewis Freeman, USATF Head Women's Relays Coach, 2008 USA Olympian, 2020 USA Olympic Coach, TrackGirlz Founder. Nicole Commissiong, University of Oregon Chief Civil Rights Officer and Title IX Coordinator, 1993 Canada Games runner-up (200m, 400m), 1996 Pac-12 Champion with UO (4x400m). This event will help build community within the sport and continue to motivate youth to be active, and to realize their full power through the strength, confidence, and character gained through sports participation. A movement activity will be included. Can't Attend? You can also support our workshops by individually donating. Donating at least $40 enables one girl to attend our workshopz at no cost. Your support helps us achieve having over 50% of participant fees waived, along with contributing toward workshop expenses. About TrackGirlz: TrackGirlz is a 501c3 nonprofit organization empowering girls through track and field, founded by USA Olympic Sprinter & Olympic Relays Coach, Mechelle Lewis Freeman. Our programs include empowerment workshopz and grants that provide girls direct access to mentorship, higher education, and sport in their local communities. Direct mentorship opportunities are provided by women from the TrackGirlz community, including Olympians, elite coaches, and industry leaders.
