Description

This tour is perfect for all photographers & all camera types including smart phones and tablets. You will be met at your skill level with guidance to build on your camera-handling techniques. Photographic discussions begins on the ferry and will cover such things as camera settings and controlling exposure. While on the island we'll explore framing, composition, and point of view. Information on how to prepare for your photo tour will be in the confirmation email once you have registered, but you can always reach out with questions at anytime. ABOUT THE FERRY RIDE: This day begins with a ferry ride out of Rockland harbor and across Penobscot Bay. Scenery will include many small islands including Hurricane Island, Greens Island, and Potato Island. You'll possibly see marine wildlife such as seals, ducks, ospreys and bald eagles, and occasionally porpoises. ABOUT THE ISLAND: The ferry docks in Carvers Harbor, which is on the edge of Vinalhaven's village and is home port for a large lobster fishing fleet. Explore the rich granite and fishing history, the rocky coastline landscape, and the working harbor. Strolling through the village, visit the historical museum, unique small shops with arts and hand made crafts, a fine art gallery, and along the way be able to feel the pulse of the island community. ABOUT YOUR GUIDE: All tours are led by me, Dee Peppe, a longtime local, fine-art photographer and professor at the University of Maine. I bring a unique combination of local knowledge and teaching experience to the itinerary of every tour. While covering camera techniques, I strive to show you ways to expand your vision and increase your awareness of your surroundings. I will help you understand the camera controls that can support your vision, and overall, to help you to see the world through your camera with more creative ability.
