The American Muslim Empowerment Network at the Muslim Association of Puget Sound (MAPS-AMEN) is the official contractor with the State of WA to provide required cultural orientation training for Afghan arrivals under the Washington State Afghan Placement and Assistance (SAPA) program. We invite new Afghan arrivals (whether under SAPA or some other resettlement option (sponsor circles, resettlement agencies, etc.) to join us for an in-person training series to cover the required topics of cultural orientation. Learn the information, resources, and tools to help you succeed in building your new life in America! Please register to attend this series of sessions to learn about the following topics, and more: Role of the Washington State Afghan Placement and Assistance (SAPA) providers, and resources available to help new Afghans;Immigration status and options;U.S. laws and law enforcement; The new community;English language;Housing;Employment;Budget and personal finance;Safety;Hygiene;Cultural adjustment; andEducationThis training series will be held at Highline Community College, taught in Dari (and/or Pashto if needed) by Afghan-American facilitators. It will take place on the following dates: Mon, June 20, 6:00pm to 9:00pm (check in at 5:30pm)Tues, June 21, 6:00pm to 9:00pm (check in at 5:30pm)Wed, June 22, 6:00pm to 9:00pm (check in at 5:30pm)Thur, June 23, 6:00pm to 9:00pm (check in at 5:30pm)Fri, June 24, 6:00pm to 9:00pm (check in at 5:30pm)Participants may attend any or all sessions, but to receive a certificate of completion for the resettlement program (and FREE gift!), you must attend ALL sessions.
