TAMPA, FL — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a body found in the water near the span of the Howard Frankland Bridge Tuesday.
Troopers, law enforcement marine units and the Coast Guard responded to reports of the body spotted in the bay at 4:24 p.m.
They were able to identify the man as a 21-year-old Brandon man who was driving a 2003 Lexus sedan that was found on the emergency shoulder of the southbound lanes of the bridge.
The car had been involved in a crash and struck the bridge barrier wall.
Troopers are still trying to figure out how the 21-year-old ended up in the bay.
