Description

SALEM, MA — The Salem Farmers' Market is opening in its downtown location of Derby Square on Front Street this week. The market, which was moved for parts of the COVID-19 health crisis, will be at the Derby Square location on Thursdays from 3 to 7 p.m. for the entire season this time around. In its 14th year, the Farmers' Market includes live music, cooking demonstrations and much more. It runs through Oct. 13. The Market's mission is to enhance the quality of life in the Salem downtown area by providing a community activity that fosters social gathering and interaction, provide a convenient and congenial means of purchasing locally grown or prepared food and support local agriculture and producers by allowing a direct market for their produce and goods. Those looking to volunteer for this year's market can sign up to do so here. The Salem Farmers' Market dates back to 1634. At its peak around 1930, an estimated 10,000 people visited the market on a single Saturday. The Farmers' Market accepts SNAP/EBT cards for market-specific coupons with two of the vendors accepting HIP payments.
