Multi-State Chase Nabs Suspected Catalytic Converter Thief: PCPD

PORT CHESTER, NY — A call from a neighbor who saw something suspicious in the early morning hours Saturday led to police catching a suspected catalytic converter thief, according to the Port Chester Police Department. A resident on Poningo Street called police after noticing some tell-tale signs of catalytic converter thieves in action. While police were responding to the call, a car was spotted leaving the area. The driver of the suspect vehicle refused to pull over for police and led cops on a short pursuit onto Byram Road in Greenwich, Connecticut, according to officials. The car hit a traffic island as it neared I-95. Two occupants of the now disabled vehicle fled on foot, but with the assistance of Greenwich police, one suspect was soon found hiding in a backyard shed and was taken into custody. Police said catalytic converters and tools to remove catalytic converters were found in the car that was abandoned. Police credited the alert caller who saw something suspicious and reported it in immediately for helping to foil the suspects' plans. PCPD also said the quick response of Greenwich police helped put an end to what appears to have been an ongoing crime spree. The unnamed suspect, a Hartford, Connecticut man, is currently in custody in Greenwich. Police are continuing to investigate this incident.
