Tribeca Film Festival Kicks Off: Here's What To Know

NEW YORK CITY — The premiere of a documentary about Jennifer Lopez. A 50th anniversary screening of "The Godfather" introduced by Al Pacino. Free showings of classic family films. An extensive "midnight" movie lineup of cult films. The Tribeca Film Festival is back with all that cinephile catnip — and more — starting Wednesday. "Tribeca Festival is so much more than films," the festival's website exclaims. "It's an experience!" And its opening night Wednesday is a treat for New Yorkers and music fans: the world premiere in Washington Heights of a new Netflix documentary film about Jennifer Lopez called "Halftime." "Powerful storytelling — whether in music, film, or games — encourages us to fight for universal values that bind humanity together," said Robert De Niro, the festival's co-founder, in a statement. "'HALFTIME," featuring Jennifer Lopez, reminds us of that." The entire festival — officially dubbed Tribeca Festival 2022 — runs through June 19. The schedule shows a smorgasbord of film premieres, live concerts, performances, talks, game and outdoor events across New York City, not just in the self-same Tribeca neighborhood. Many films and offer at-home screenings, which can be bought for $15 per screening. Information on pricing can be found here. For people who are going to in-person screenings, there's an important caveat: "There are no tickets sold in-person prior to the festival, all transactions must be made online through the Tribeca website," according to a festival FAQ.
