STRATFORD, CT — Victoria Soto School in Stratford will be changing from a pre-K through first grade school to a pre-K only building under a plan approved by the Stratford Board of Education, according to News12 Connecticut. News12 Connecticut reports the other grades are moving to the Johnson House, which is on the same campus. Victoria Soto School is named in honor of the first-grade teacher from Stratford who was killed in the Sandy Hook School shooting in 2012. The Connecticut Post previously reported that the school district has been looking for ways to reach the $2.5 million in savings needed from the budget approved by the Board of Education in February after the board received its allocation from the Town Council. Stratford Superintendent of Schools Uyi Osunde proposed cutting 27 positions across the district. The principal position at Victoria School was included in the cuts (the current principal is retiring).
