HINGHAM, MA — Aileen Walsh has been hired as the Hingham Police Department's full-time Community Crisis Response Clinician, the police chief said Tuesday. In her new Town-funded role, Walsh will join officers as they respond to mental health and substance abuse calls, offering crisis intervention and following up with hospitals to ensure those struggling get the support they need. "There has never been a greater need for these types of services," Police Chief David Jones said. "Having her embedded with the department and being able to co-respond directly with officers makes this position unique, and one we know will be of great benefit to the entire community." Walsh will also provide mental health education around the community, from training police officers on how best to respond to mental health calls to educating students and staff at Hingham Public Schools about mental health and substance use disorders.
