FRAMINGHAM, MA – On Sunday, June 12, One Framingham, in conjunction with the City of Framingham, is hosting a parade and ceremony in honor of Flag Day. The parade, which will kick off at 10:00am, will begin at the Cushing Memorial Chapel at 60 Dudley Rd. and proceed counter-clockwise around the entirety of the park. Following the parade, there will be a brief ceremony at the flag pole near the Cushing Memorial Chapel at 11 a.m. Flag Day, which is celebrated on June 14 annually, was officially established by proclamation by President Woodrow Wilson in 1916 and was codified by an Act of Congress on August 3, 1949. Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the American flag on June 14, 1777 by the Second Continental Congress. "We are privileged to have the One Framingham committee, which has dedicated their time to organize this wonderful celebration," said Mayor Charles Sisitsky in a statement. "It is imperative that we continue to celebrate our flag, which holds within it our shared American values and commitment to freedom. I encourage all in our community to come out and celebrate the history of our beautiful American flag." All members of the public are welcome to attend. Those who wish to attend are asked to park in the large lots on the corner of Dr. Harvey L. Cushing Way and Dudley Road.
