We had talked at the downtown library.
You were taking a math course at LCC.
(That was years ago: this is the short version)
Last month, I saw you again on the 24 Donald bus.
I was going to get a part at the Willamette Street True Value so I could fix a friend's lamp.
You were going to the Southside Post Office on 33rd Avenue.
You had a broken lamp, too!
I offered to fix it.
You held out an envelope and I wrote my phone number on the back.
As I got off the bus, you said:
"It might be a while before I call you. I don't have a phone!"
No phone? How could you even *live* without a phone??
As the bus pulled away, I had this thought: I should have given her my phone!
But then, if she'd tried to call me, I wouldn't have a phone, so that wouldn't have worked.
Now I wonder: did she *mail* the envelope with my phone number on it when she got to the Post Office??
If you are Charlene, I hope you read this.
If you aren't Charlene, but know a Charlene with a broken ("bent" she said) lamp, please tell her I'm here waiting on Craigslist.
