Doodle For Google's Virginia Winner Is Potomac School Student

MCLEAN, VA — A student at The Potomac School in McLean is the Virginia winner of the Doodle for Google contest. Kennedy Ferguson will compete for a chance to have her artwork on the Google homepage. The 14th annual Doodle for Google invited K-12 students to create their own versions of the Google logo with the theme of "I care for myself by..." Google named 54 state and territorial nominees. "My Doodle represents the ways I care for myself," said Ferguson. "My self-love language is self-expression, pampering, and indulging in things that make me the most happy and hopeful version of myself." Ferguson is a senior at The Potomac School's visual and performing arts concentration program's fine arts track. "I have been fascinated with art since I was a child, and my passion has pushed me to always study, watch art tutorials, fill sketchbooks, and make insultingly bad crayon portraits of my family," said Ferguson. "This recognition means so much to me, and I am thankful for the opportunity to share my art with a larger audience." Five finalists will be chosen by a public vote. The public vote was delayed due to the Uvalde, Texas shooting, but once it resumes, voting will be available at https://doodles.google.com/d4g. After five finalists are announced, a winner will be decided. Judges include 2021 National Teacher of the Year Juliana Urtubey; director, model, and mental health activist Elyse Fox; and artist, entrepreneur, and philanthropist Selena Gomez. The winner will have the Doodle featured on the Google homepage for one day and win a $30,000 college scholarship and $50,000 tech package for their school's computer lab or technology program.
