NEW HAVEN, CT — A 16-year-old boy was gunned down Wednesday morning on Goffe Street, between Orchard and Winter streets, according to police.
It was just before 11 a.m. when police got the call about a shooting in the area outside the Dr. Reginald Mayo Early Childhood School, police said.
Taken to the hospital, the boy is listed in stable condition, police spokesperson Scott Shumway said.
Area schools were placed in lockdown out of an abundance of caution, Shumway said, and once the area was determined to be safe, the lockdowns were lifted.
The Bureau of Identification responded to the scene and collected ballistic evidence. Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit are leading the investigation.
Police ask that any witnesses who have not yet spoken with the Police contact the New Haven Police Department Investigative Services Division at 203-946-6304.
