Description
We are looking for individuals to serve as Take Down Crew for our upcoming Tri-State Trek Charity Bike Ride. Friday, June 24-Sunday, June 26th. Main responsibility is to remove the arrows marking the cyclizing route, complete list of responsibilities below. You are the last representatives of the event through the course, there is no one else behind you. If you see trash, equipment, or personal belongings on the course or rest stop areas, you are responsible for it. Your success means towns and rest stop sites will allow us to come back the following year. Responsibilities 1. Leave Boston College after the last rider has left and you’ve confirmed you should leave with Chelsea or Kevin. The slowest rider will set your pace. If a rider seems like they’re not going to make it before sundown, engage them and ask if they need a ride. If so, call dispatch and arrange for a Route Support vehicle to pick them up. 2. Remove all route marking materials including but not limited to: paper arrows, wrong way signs, lawn signs, zip ties, and tape. Outbound arrows (Watertown to Greenwich) are plain red arrows. 3. Inspect every rest stop, lunch stop, and unofficial rest area (anywhere directly on the route where it is clear our riders may have stopped) and ensure that trash has been removed or properly placed in dumpster. a. Overflowing dumpster? Take anything on the ground with you b. Boxes stacked outside dumpster? Stop, break them down, and dispose of in dumpster or take them with you 4. Dispose of your vehicle’s trash in dumpsters along the way or at the end of the day at the ALS TDI lab. 5. Check Rest Stops and Lunch Stop for “Dedicate a Mile” Signs. You will be responsible for some of these. Expect Dispatch to direct you. 6. In the event of a rider emergency call 911, then call dispatch. The number on their bike or wristband should be recorded. Do not leave the rider until help arrives. 7. When done for the day, text Kevin or Chelsea and call dispatch to confirm that you are in and the course is clear. 8. Maintain your vehicles fuel, supplies, and tools. Keep any receipts for purchases made. 9. Seat belts must be worn at all times, even though there is a lot of in-and-out of the car. Wear safety vests to be seen. Use the orange flags. Use hazard lights. Do not pull over directly after a curve. Look both ways before you cross. 10. Wear closed toe shoes and long pants. Ticks are present and plenty of arrows will involve walking through long grass and brush. Make sure you check for ticks throughout the day and each night before bed. 11. Be friendly to the public. Be able to articulate what the Tri-State Trek is and what you’re doing. 12. You are also welcomed to snacks and drinks at rest stops and dinner. Follow behind the last rider and remove all cyclist directional arrows.
