Description

BROOKFIELD, CT — The town Conservation Commission is seeking the public's assistance to help remove invasive plant species from local parks. If the invasive botanicals — which include burning bush, Japanese barberry, bittersweet and tree of heaven — are not controlled, local forests and meadows will be permanently damaged and wildlife and native plants could be gone forever, according to a flier from the commission. Volunteers are needed Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to noon. They should meet at the entrance to Williams Park, and bring garden gloves and gardening tools, including pruning shears. A master gardener will be available to assist volunteers to identify and provide information about the dangers of the invasive species.
