Description

--- The Concept --- The strict definition of a Writers Round or "In the round" is a group of songwriters in a circle taking turns singing their songs. One writer sings a song and then the next sings a song and so on. They just go around the circle playing in turn. More often the writers are actually lined up on stage in a row or "In the row". Sometimes others in the circle will add some instrumental flavor and or harmony vocals. Writers round has become the universal accepted term for either scenario. --- The Acts --- Will Easter “Growing up in Stokes County in another NC “high country” of the Sauratown Mountains, Will Easter got his musical and life inspiration from a couple of powerful sources: his family and his surroundings. His family instilled in him an unwavering work ethic; his surroundings impressed on him an appreciation for the beauty of the land. Both of these are frequent tropes he draws upon in his songwriting. After moving to Boone and graduating from Appalachian State University, Will adopted the Blue Ridge as his new home. Since then, he has become a fixture in the music scene from the mountains to the piedmont, and beyond. Moreover, he has shared the spotlight with some notable folk legends, the likes of which include Jim Avett, David Childers, and Rhonda Vincent. Meris Gantt Music roots run deep in Meris's family. She grew up dancing in the kitchen to the likes of Gillian Welch, Guy Clark and New Grass Revival. She started performing at an early age and received a BFA in Music Theatre from Elon University. Meris moved to Blowing Rock, North Carolina shortly thereafter and began exploring her passion for songwriting. She co-founded the Boone based band Mountain Radio in 2011, eventually melding into her current project Handlebar Betty. Laced with elements of bluegrass, folk, blues and soul, Handlebar Betty creates a unique sound that is dark, driving, and earthy; bringing forth a genuine and soulful approach to acoustic/electric music. Casey Noel Casey Noel’s timeless, captivating music will remind you of the many ways songs can enrich a life. A skilled singer-songwriter crystallizes the grace of a moment, honors and beautifies sadness, gives wings to something tender, something fun – something longing for flight. Casey’s work, gathered for the first time on her Americana-tinged debut release Not Just Pretty Words, does all of the above and more. Zach Warren Born in Asheville, North Carolina, Zachary Warren, at his core, is a songwriter. As a teen, he began remedially filling journals and finding melodies to match, and now, after amble incubation, is prepared for the next step: offering. Growing up in a home with close quarters, his music naturally settled into a place of gentleness: light finger-picking and hushed singing, so as not to disturb his sleeping family. His style began taking shape during nightly front-porch listening sessions, where he learned the power of dynamics from Sam Cooke and the almost-hypnotic effect of clever storytelling from Tom T. Hall. Eventually, he came across songwriters like Townes Van Zandt, Blaze Foley, and Karen Dalton who taught living intentionally for song’s sake and poets like William Carlos Williams, who emphasized a grounded perception of the local.
