Three Rescued From Riptide At Cape May County Beach

STONE HARBOR, NJ — Three swimmers were rescued from a riptide at a Stone Harbor beach on Monday evening, officials said. Stone Harbor Fire Department arrived at 96th Street and the Beach at about 6 p.m. on Monday for a surf rescue, fire department officials said. Avalon Fire Department was also dispatched as a part of Stone Harbor's mutual aid for surf rescue. Three swimmers were caught in a riptide and were in distress, officials said. Marine 13 was deployed and firefighters entered the water as swimmers. The wave runner crew made three trips to return the victims and swimmers to shore, officials said. One victim was treated by Avalon EMS. "If this sounds familiar, we had the same situation, at the same location and time on Monday, May 23rd, and luckily, both had successful outcomes," Stone Harbor Fire Department officials said. "Everyone should only swim during lifeguard hours, and be aware of dangerous riptides."
